In 1997, expansion of Barcelona airport required it to change its location once again, to the Bonvilar country estate, a 220-hectare plot situated in the green corridor that links the 13,000-hectare Sant Llorenç del munt i l’Obac and Collserola Nature Parks. The new, and current, site, is situated 26 kilometres from Barcelona, between Terrassa and Sabadell. In this idyllic setting, Greg Norman designed 45 holes with the visionary idea of creating a fusion of playability and aesthetic beauty, by adapting the course to suit all playing levels and styles and seamlessly integrating all seven layouts into the natural surroundings.

Located on the farmland of Arenals de Mar, on dunes covered by an immense pine forest planted seventy years ago, Golf Platja de Pals was an idea created at the beginning of the seventies by Baltasar Parera Vilar and his wife Doña Rosa Coll Llach, who provided the land necessary as well as the construction of the first nine holes and the clubhouse, as well as the necessary maintenance equipment. English architect Mr. Fred Hawtree worked closely with the plans of the Parera-Coll family. The first holes on the first Costa Brava golf course were inaugurated in the summer of 1966, and soon after, in 1968 the extension of the course was undertaken with nine holes more until the 18 regulation holes stipulation was fulfilled. The new regulation course was inaugurated in 1970 with the celebration of the “Spanish International Amateur Championship”. Two years later, the Golf Platja de Pals, held the “1972 Spanish Open”.
Inspired by the famous desert courses of Arizona & California, The par 72 international championship Indiana course is the first desert course in Europe and has been built to full USGA specifications and the quality standards of these desert courses, now famous for the quality of golf that they offer. It presents unforgettable views, and golf of such a dramatic nature that it can be said to have taken not only desert golf, but also golf in general in this part of Spain to a new level of excellence. Its immaculate fairways are set amongst massive rocky outcrops, arroyos and dry rivers. The vivid contrast of the ‘desert springs’ and the emerald green fairways with the arid landscape of cactus, rock and flowering desert, is stunning at all times of year. The whole golfing vision is framed within a panorama of landmark mountain ranges. The course is both demanding and exhilarating, providing a variety of shot making challenges to test the skill level of every player, from the beginner to professional.
