About Palheiro Golf

Palheiro Golf lies on the Palheiro estate in the hills east of Funchal, an estate famous for its botanical gardens and home to the Casa Velha do Palheiro hotel. It is the best-known course on Madeira, an island where mild temperatures make golf possible all year.

Cabell B. Robinson laid the course across steep, wooded terrain, with maritime pines, eucalyptus and flowering plants lining the fairways. Elevation changes are part of every hole, and the views over the city, the bay and the ocean are some of the most dramatic in European golf. The slopes and the sea breeze make club selection the real test.

What makes it different: the views. From many tees you look straight down over Funchal and the Atlantic, 500 metres below.

What to expect on the course

  • Steep, hilly terrain. Big elevation changes on most holes; a buggy is strongly recommended.
  • Sub-tropical setting. Pines, eucalyptus and flowering gardens frame the fairways.
  • Ocean views. Funchal Bay and the Atlantic are in view from much of the course.
  • Full practice facilities. Driving range, chipping area, putting green and a golf school.
  • Clubhouse. Restaurant and bar, plus locker rooms and Wi-Fi.

MORGADO GOLF COURSE Surrounded by Nature, farming fields, in the typical of the Algarvian Barrocal, ensconced between the hilly interior and the coast, graced with partridges and rabbits, is Morgado golf course. Between Portimão and Monchique, in one of the beautiful and largely unknown valleys of the Algarvian hinterland, this course is a challenge both for those taking their first steps in golf as for more experienced players seeking to test or improve their technique. However, the less accomplished strokes can be penalised by any one of the many bunkers distributed over the course. Surrounded by traditional species of trees of the region, such as citrus and olive trees, at Morgado the player is immersed in a calm and serene Algarve, meeting the inner soul of this region that has so much to offer.
